Prayers of Hope, Words of Courage

"This little book of prayers was written in prison. Though I was alone and seemed to have nothing at all, I had the love of faithful friends who were praying for me. And I had the love of Christ in my heart. In gratitude for that love, I wrote these prayers scraps of paper the prison guards gave me. They are ' remembrance of that time when I seemed poor, but when I was actually very rich-for love can do all things."

 Cardinal Francis Xavier Nguyen Van Thuan was imprisoned by the Vietnamese government for thirteen years, and then expelled from Vietnam. As the President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, Van Thuan continues to proclaim the gospel of peace and freedom, justice and human dignity. His best selling works include Testimony of Hope and The Road of Hope.
